Drum Circle at Mendocino Sufi Camp 2008
led by Gayan Gregory Long

Pir Shabda Kahn writes: Dear Family,

At the Mendocino Sufi Camp this year, as in previous years, we had a late night Dance/Cosmic Rave after Thursday night Zikr. This event allows our youth community to feel like part of camp is theirs and in their rhythm, that we can all join in, while for the rest of the week much of what they do is join us in our rhythm.

This years dj was my son Solomon, who is a professional dj, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the 2 1/2 hours of continuous dance music. He recorded it as he played for us, and we have posted it for any of you to download and enjoy. Here is the link to the MP3 file

ABOUT GETTING THIS FILE: Different web browsers have different behaviors when you click on a filename like the above. Someday I hope to write out a "how-to" for all the browsers there are, on at least the current versions of Windows and Mac-OS. Meanwhile, here's a plan: when you click on the link above, hopefully you will get a choice to open or save it. Choose 'open' -- but you may have to wait for the whole, very large file to land on your computer before it starts to play. Other tricks to try include right-clicking or ctrl-clicking on the link (the underlined word/s) and try the choices in the resulting menu. Nothing bad will happen.     -- Shaffee

EVERY SOUL HAS A DEFINITE TASK, AND THE FULFILLMENT OF EACH
INDIVIDUAL PURPOSE CAN ALONE LEAD ONE ARIGHT; ILLUMINATION COMES TO
ONE THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF ONE'S OWN TALENT.--Hazrat Inayat Khan

Commentary by Hazrat Samuel L. Lewis (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti):

It is not necessary to turn the merchant into a musician nor compel
the artist to be a mechanic. Perfection of any task leads to
perfection of quality and perfection of quality leads to realization
of perfection in essence. This is the task of every soul together
with the need to praise God every step of the way. All the
metaphysics and theology are but the forms -- higher or lower -- with
which teachings are clothed, but the teachings are Life itself.
